The Nottingham Lions were rocked by the news that Warren Tait has left the club to join Moralee Division rivals the Telford Tigers.
Reacting to Telford's announcement that Tait had signed for the Tigers, a Lions club spokesman said: "Obviously we are disappointed to lose Warren but we can't compete with teams that have a budget and can pay players to play."
"We're also disappointed that Telford didn't look to recruit from within their own system, but we have to get on with it and this situation will give us a chance to offer further opportunities to our junior squad to fill the gap left by Warren's departure."
Head Coach Matt Bradbury add: "The timing isn't ideal with an away trip to Scotland on Saturday followed up on Sunday facing a strong Blackburn team that don't play the night before."
"Warren has been great for us this season so to lose him at this stage is a massive blow, however it gives someone the chance to step up and fill his skates."
The Lions travel to Dumfries on Saturday to play the Solway Sharks before returning to the NIC on Sunday to take on the Blackburn Hawks, face-off is at 7:30pm.
