The Nottingham Lions have added 26 year-old defenseman Luke Thomas to their roster for the coming season.

The Solihull born player returns to the pride after spending four seasons with the Lions between 2005-2009, before going on to play three seasons with his hometown club Solihull Barons, including last season where the Barons finished bottom of ENL1, just below Nottingham.

Luke spoke to yesterday and was clearly delighted to be signing-up with Matt Bradbury’s side for 2012/13 after a difficult season with the Barons, saying:

“Nottingham is a great club with great prestige, it was an obvious and easy choice once the management made it clear there was a spot for me.”

“I had got to the point where I wasn’t enjoying my hockey and was on the end of some pretty poor treatment at Solihull – Matt obviously saw this and approached me at the end of 2011 to see what my future plans were.”

“As a player, its nice to know you are wanted by a club and Matt, Danny and Gloss made it clear I was welcome and put an offer on the table – I decided to see out the season at Solihull but knew I’d be joining the Lions this summer.”

Despite enduring a tough time in the West Midlands last season, Luke still had time to thank the clubs’ supporters as he moved on, adding;

‘I’d like to thank the fans at Solihull for great support during my time there – they really do have some of the best support a team could ask for.”

“It’s never an easy decision to leave your hometown club, and I’ve really appreciated receiving e-mails and calls over the last few weeks from fans seeing if I was returning.”

As the stay-at-home D-man’s thoughts turned to the new season there is no doubt in his mind what Nottingham should be aiming for this time around, stating:

“A team like the Lions should be looking at cementing a place in ENL1 again, so of course promotion is the main goal.”

“I will be one of the only guys with experience at ENL2, so I’ll be looking to pass on the knowledge I have and keep the team focused on the job ahead.”

“I will attempt to become that ‘go-to-guy’ that the younger players look for when seeking advice – the senior players will be more important than ever this season and we all need to work together and take the coaches systems on board.”

Keep checking for more exciting signing news over the coming days and weeks.
