The Nottingham Lions are preparing to face their toughest weekend of the season so far, as a double-header with the top two teams in NIHL Lailder D2 awaits Matt Bradbury's side.

Saturday sees the Lions travel to second-placed Telford Tigers at Telford Ice Rink (5.30pm) before welcoming the table-topping champions-elect Solihull Barons to the National Ice Centre on Sunday evening (7.30pm).

Nottingham are in dire need of a victory to kick start their promotion push, after a run of three straight defeats has seen them fall away to sixth position in the standings, three points behind fourth-placed Widnes and two points behind fifth-placed Hull but with such in-form opposition in the way of the Lions, Bradbury's boys know they will have to be at their very best to pick up the four vital points on offer.

The Lions have yet to claim any points off this weekend's opponents, having suffered two narrow defeats to the Tigers in October and December, mainly thanks to the heroics of Telford goalie Denis Bell, who shone in a 3-0 blanking at Telford Ice Rink and a 2-1 decision at the NIC.

The seemingly unstoppable Barons still remain unbeaten this season, with twenty-six wins from twenty-six games and despite Nottingham's best efforts at Hobs Moat Road, they suffered a 9-3 defeat there in October and fell to a 7-2 loss last Sunday.

Coach Bradbury will be hoping to welcome back Christy Johnson-Brown, Luke Thomas and Reece Glossop, who all missed out on last Sunday's defeat in Solihull, whilst the club's talented pool of Under-18s should be available for selection for at least one of the two fixtures.

Don't forget if you can't make the trip to Shropshire to roar on the boys on Saturday evening, you can keep up to date with the latest score by following the Lions' official Twitter feed.
