The Altrincham Aces make their second trip to the National Ice Centre on Sunday having hit a run of lost games and looking to get a result to not only kick start their season but to help them achieve a top four slot and the end of season play offs.
The teams have met twice and honours are almost even with the Lions winning their home game 6-3 but then losing out up at Altrincham 5-1.
It would be true to say that both teams are feeling the pain somewhat as the Lions have taken a couple of fairly heavy recent losses against the Deeside Dragons, but they have at least had that close 3-2 home win against the Widnes Wild. The Aces on the other hand have met three of the top four teams and like the Lions they have also lost out twice to the Dragons but have also lost twice to the Wild and once, in a tight finish, against the Blackburn Eagles.
There might be an awful lot riding on this game for both teams as they battle to keep their respective seasons on track. Another game that I find great difficulty in predicting a result, but what I do predict is a hard fought game and maybe a somewhat physical encounter.
I was reflecting on the Deeside game and thought it was a real good job that Alan Levers was on form in nets as the second period frightened the heck out of me just watching what that guy had to turn away. We had our chances looking at the shots on goal stats but it was turning those into goals. Good once again to see Samantha Bolwell get some ice time and relieve possibly a shell shocked Levers. He really turned in a performance worthy of mention as far as I was concerned and I feel sure a number of others felt the same way. That Deeside Dragons team look unstoppable at the moment, that is unless the Red Hockey v Flintshire Council battle takes a toll on both the team and management. We will just have to wait and see!
Face Off at the National Ice Centre is at 7.30pm.
