The Nottingham Lions can today announce the first four players who will suit up for Matt Bradbury’s side in the 2019/20 season. All four are returning players as the Nottingham crowds will see Luke Thomas, Ben Wilson, Lewis Jones and Jordan Wright wearing the white and gold once again.
Thomas returns for his 12th season as a Lion having accumulated 102 penalty minutes in 32 games last season, setting a new club record for time spent sat in the penalty box in the process. Wilson is back for his 10th season having played 30 games last campaign. Matt Bradbury will be looking to Ben for his physical presence on the ice when the puck drops in the Autumn.
Lewis Jones moved to the Lions from the Haringey Huskies ahead of last season and impressed, proving himself to be a reliable defenceman. Having progressed through the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club to join the Lions four years ago, Wright has been a consistent figure in the Lions dressing room, icing in every game last season.
Speaking of the four signings Head Coach Matt Bradbury said: “It’s great to be able to announce these guys as our first signings. They are all committed to Nottingham both as senior Lions players but also as qualified coaches on the Nottingham Ice Hockey Club coaching team, giving time back volunteering to support the development of junior players within our club.”
“It’s very early days as we are in the off season, but both myself and Gloss [Paul Glossop] have drawn up our long list of players and we look forward to finalising our squad over the coming weeks. One thing we do know is that last season was a huge learning experience for everyone involved and we look forward to bringing more young players through the ranks to the senior platform. We expect to make another valuable step as part of our long term plans and vision next season.”
