The Nottingham Lions are delighted to announce the return of promising, young netminder Tom Hovell, who will be back between the pipes for the forthcoming 2015/16 NIHL Laidler D2 season.
The 19 year-old impressed in his 27 games last season and now has a further opportunity to cement his claim on a regular starting place for his hometown team.
The backstopper has continued to show a strong work ethic during his progress through the Nottingham development system, representing the city throughout his junior career before breaking into the Lions squad during the 2011/12 campaign.
In 2014/15, Tom finished the season with an impressive 91.49% save percentage, facing an average of almost 36 shots per game, leaving him third in the league goalie standings behind netminders from runaway leaders Solihull Barons and Telford Tigers.
Hovell has also made appearances backing up the Nottingham Panthers and has had the opportunity to train with the Elite League team.
Lions head coach Matt Bradbury spoke to nottinghamlions.co.uk this week and was clearly pleased to have Tom back on board, saying;
“He’s another model to the youngsters of what you can achieve if you work hard as a junior netminder. He has had one of the best mentors possible in Alan Levers and has seen on a few occasions, when Alan pretty much won games single-handedly, with some outstanding displays.
“Last year he made the number one spot his own with some excellent displays and I expect to see him push on again this time around. This will be his fifth season being involved with the Lions, which shows our commitment to the youth players here at Nottingham.”
