Nottingham Lions 2 Trafford Metros 0

The Lions bounced back from their disappointing defeat at Telford on Saturday with a superb win over the Trafford Metros on Sunday night at the National Ice Centre.

Nottingham netminder Alan Levers marked his return to the line-up, after four months out through injury, with a fantastic 29-shot shut-out, whilst Joe Wightman and Jack Clarkson got the Lions’ decisive strikes at the other end.

Shut-Out - Alan Levers

Despite the lack of goals, there was no shortage of entertaining hockey in the first two periods with Levers and his opposite number Dave Clancy both in fine form to keep the scoresheet blank going into the third.

After a tough time against the Titans the previous evening, Nottingham showed no sign of tiring in the final period and finally broke through the Trafford defence with twelve minutes remaining via Wightman, before Clarkson doubled the Lions lead on the power play five minutes later.

The Metros then threw everything they had at the home side in the final five minutes but the home side held firm to gain another vital two points in their bid to avoid the relegation places.

2nd Goal - Jack Clarkson
