The Nottingham Lions will open their NIHL North 1 campaign with a home triple header as they welcome the Telford Tigers, Hull Pirates and Solway Sharks to the National Ice Centre Olympic Rink on the 3rd, 10th and 17th of September respectively. We first leave The Den on Sunday 24th September to face the Whitley Warriors before travelling to Scotland for the first time six days later to round out the opening month of fixtures.

October is the month of Sunday’s for the Lions and it opens with the visit of the Blackburn Hawks to the NIC before two games on the road once again as we travel to the Solihull Barons and the Sheffield Steeldogs. We the return for a four-game home stand heading into November as the Whitley Warriors and Sheffield Steeldogs travel to Nottingham at the end of October with a home weekend double header kicking off November.

November is the busiest month on the club calendar with seven fixtures over four weekends starting with the visit of the Billingham Stars and our only fixture of the year in the National Ice Centre Arena on Saturday 4th, followed immediately by the Solihull Barons in the Olympic Rink a day later. An away/home weekend follows with our second trip to Whitley before welcoming Solway to Nottingham and a week later is the only stand-alone fixture of November with the visit of Telford on the 19th. The month rounds off with a road trip to Solway and Deeside on the final weekend.

Into December and if you want a Christmas family outing to the Lions then Sunday 3rd is your only opportunity as we host the Deeside Dragons before away games for the rest of the month to Hull, Telford and Blackburn.

In 2018 the Lions travel to Billingham for the first time on Saturday 6th January before returning to the NIC a day later to take on Deeside. Three more Sunday fixtures follow with away trips to Blackburn and Hull before the Sheffield Steeldogs make the trip to Nottingham once more.

February starts with two away games to Billingham and Sheffield before we welcome Billingham to The Den on Sunday 11th. Another away/home double header against Solihull and Whitley comes the following weekend before a home contest against the Hawks rounds off February.

With the season in the critical point there are two games in March to bring the campaign to a close. We play our final home game against the Hull Pirates on Sunday 4th March before finishing the season away at the Telford Tigers.

Lions coach Matt Bradbury is looking forward to the new campaign saying: “Starting the season against two of the three ex EPL teams in Telford and Hull and facing last year’s champions Telford is going to be a real baptism of fire for us at the start of the campaign but we are looking forward to getting down to business on the ice.”

“The players we’ve recruited have gelled and are working together brilliantly and the players are raring to go with a mouth-watering start for the organisation and for hockey fans in Nottingham, the Lions are the only side playing on Sunday 3rd so we are hoping for a big crowd in The Den.”
