Players from the Nottingham Lions took an unusual break from their regular pre-game rituals on Sunday evening as one of the UK’s top Burlesque performers Cherry Deville paid a visit to the National Ice Centre to help promote the Lions’ Movember fundraising campaign.

Cherry Deville gives the Lions a Movember boost.

During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sprouting of moustaches on thousands of men’s faces in the UK and around the world. The aim of which is to raise vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer.

Cherry, who was given a specially customised Lions’ t-shirt for the occasion, spoke to and explained why she found herself at the NIC to give the team a pre-game boost, saying;

“I was most honoured to be given the first ever custom-made Nottingham Lions shirt and wanted to say thank you to the fellas in person. I was delighted to see that their Magnificent facial hair stylings were well and truly on there way and I can not wait to judge the finished products!”

“I’m very proud that the Lions have agreed to a collaboration with ‘The Black Cherry Burlesque’ to promote awareness for prostate and testicular cancer, we hope our efforts will help raise funds for the charities – we are encouraging people to give maximum support for a worthy cause while enjoying a fantastic night of Burlesque entertainment from some of the UK’s finest performers.”

Alongside other Burlesque, Cabaret and Vaudeville acts, Cherry will be hosting and performing at a special event at Nottingham’s Black Cherry Lounge (formerly The Rig) on the 30th November.

A selection of Lions’ players and staff will be in attendance that evening and will be judged by some of the evening’s acts on who has managed to grow the best moustache over the four-week fund-raising period.

Also, a special forfeit awaits the Lion who is deemed to have the worst piece of face furniture.

Cherry’s visit certainly seemed to do the trick as the Lions went on to record their biggest win of the season, thumping the Blackburn Eagles by an emphatic 13-0 scoreline.
