The Nottingham Lions face their fierce promotion rivals Deeside Dragons for the final time this season in a huge top of the table clash at the National Ice Centre this Sunday (7.15pm face off).

Luke Branin in action during the Lions’ 8-6 win over the Dragons at the NIC back in September.

A win for the Dragons will see them replace the Lions at the top of the NIHL Division Two standings, whilst two points for Nottingham would lift them three points clear with games in hand over all three of their promotion rivals.

The Lions have yet to drop a single point at home this season and will be looking to continue their impressive record in what is set-up to be a thrilling encounter between two teams that will be going all-out for the win.

Deeside have struggled to take points from Matt Bradbury’s men in the team’s three previous encounters this season. Four unanswered goals in the first period helped the Lions to victory by and 8-6 scoreline at the NIC back in September, a 3-3 tie in North Wales saw the points shared a month later before last month’s encounter at Deeside Ice Arena allowed Nottingham to secure an early, overall four-game series win with a tight 4-2 decision.

The Lions hope to welcome back Simon Hunt, who missed the impressive 8-3 victory over Solihull Barons a fortnight ago through illness. Whilst it is still unclear who will be given the nod in goal on Sunday as Sam Gospel continues to recover from his recent concussion but with his compatriot Alan Levers in fine form since he re-joined the club last month, Nottingham are sure to be backed-up with some solid goal-tending as they face the league’s current top goalscorers.

So get yourselves down to the NIC this Sunday and roar on the boys in what should be a cracking, action-packed evening of hockey!
