A big local derby clash awaits the Nottingham Lions this Sunday evening, as they host their Midlands rivals Coventry Blaze at the National Ice Centre (7.30pm).

11benwoodBen Wood netted four of the Lions' ten goals against the Blaze, back in October.

The Lions will be hoping to continue their fine recent form, having won five of their last six games, including last weekend's impressive 7-1 hammering of the Deeside Dragons at the NIC.

By their own standards, Coventry have a poor campaign so far, picking up just six wins from their twenty-one games but they still are only five points behind Nottingham, with a game in hand and will undoubtedly, be going all-out to make sure they stay in the head-to-head race with the Lions, who currently have one win and a draw to their name, against the Blaze this season.

Back in September, Nottingham bounced back from 3-1 behind, to secure a point in a 4-4 tie at the Skydome, whilst October's meeting between the sides at the NIC, saw the Lions run out a comfortable 10-3 win, with Ben Wood playing the starring role, bagging himself four goals.

Presently, head coach Matt Bradbury still has top-scoring Latvian Ivo Dimitrijevs, Reece Glossop and Ben Foster-Wilson on the injured list but he will be hoping the threesome can recover in time to ice against the Blaze at the weekend, for what is usually a bruising and fast-paced affair.

So make sure you head down to the NIC on Sunday night for what promises to be another entertaining and feisty Nottingham - Coventry derby. Ticket details for the best value for money sporting experience in the city and beyond, are available by clicking here.
