This Sunday will see the Nottingham Lions entertain the Coventry Blaze at the National Ice Centre at 7:30pm. So far during this Laidler D2 2014/15 campaign the Lions have just two wins on the board, making closing out October with another two points all the more important.

The Lions and Blaze last met in September at the Skydome where they saw the Blaze take a 3-1 lead before overturning the deficit with grit and determination. Captain Luke Thomas edged the Lions ahead only to see the Blaze tragically equalise in the final two minutes, tying the game and holding out to the buzzer. One point may have been the only spoils of the road trip but it was a showcase of what Matt Bradbury’s team is capable of with their backs against the wall, a lesson both the Lions and Blaze will have in mind when the puck drops on Sunday.

Two wins, three losses and a pair of draws are what the Blaze bring to the NIC. The season has been just as tough for the West Midlands outfit as it has for Nottingham, of their most recent games they have a double points draw against Blackburn and a loss to Widnes. A win on Sunday will keep them a step ahead of the Lions, who tail three points behind.

Bradbury has had to deal with a lot of absences to date and will be hoping for a boost by returns from Lee Holland, Reece Glossop, Christy Johnson-Brown and Stuart Parker. Another boost could come with the return of their Under 18 contingent, who all missed last weekend's trip to Solihull, as they faced Sheffield at the NIC.

The game is sure to be an intense battle as the rivalry continues to grow between the East and West Midlands clubs. Previous encounters have always been feisty and entertaining with no quarter yielded in the quest for two points, no less will be expected this Sunday!

Come on down and cheer the pride on, face off is 7:30pm this Sunday evening (26th October) at the NIC and ticket details can be found by clicking here.
