The Nottingham Lions are delighted to welcome back their captain Nick Whyatt for the forthcoming 2012/13 season.
2011/12 was his most productive season so far with the Lions, notching up 9 goals and 17 assists, finishing second-top points scorer behind Joe Wightman.
Nick took time out to speak to nottinghamlions.co.uk about signing up for the new season, saying;
“I’m really pleased to be returning to captain the Lions next season. Brads and Danny are working hard putting a team together that’s going to get us straight back up and they’re continuing to push the club in the right direction - it’s an exciting time to be here.”
“There were major changes at the club from top to bottom last summer and initially it was difficult but as the season progressed team spirit improved and we’ll be making sure that it continues to improve this season and that in turn should be evident in our performances on the ice.”
“Our aim is to win the league – it’s not going to be easy as there are some good teams in the division who’ll have the same objective as us. Both Solihull and Deeside are recruiting some good players but we’ll go into every game aiming to win and get us back to where we belong.”
Head coach Matt Bradbury also spoke to nottinghamlions.co.uk, adding;
“Your captain is always one of the most important signings you can make and having Nick back is key for the team.”
“One of his main tasks this coming season will be to keep the team close knit and pulling together in the right direction – he’ll be working to bring together the youth of the Nottingham Junior Club that will be introduced into this years squad as well as ensuring that the more senior players keep their focus and get the job done both at training sessions and during games.”
“Nick was not only the obvious, but the right choice to work alongside the coach and management team – he did a great job in stepping up to the plate as captain when we lost Chris Colegate to injury prior to Christmas and he must be commended for his efforts.”
