The Nottingham Lions are proud to announce the news that our head coach Matt Bradbury has been shortlisted for a 2014 Nottingham City Council Sports Award.

The awards, now in their fifth year, recognise and reward the local clubs, individuals and volunteers who together make such an important contribution to sport in Nottingham.

Matt is one of the three nominees in the 'Community Coach Of The Year' category, which aims to reward a qualified coach who is coaching in a community or club setting and in a predominately voluntary capacity. They will also have made a major contribution to the lives of those they coach and can include grass roots coaching, community groups, and all age groups.

This will be awarded on commitment, inspirational behaviour, and impact on participation of others rather than on the performance of those they coach.

Also pleased with the announcement was Lions GM Danny Harrison, who was keen to sing the praises of his colleague, saying:

"Matt has no doubt been recognised not only for his great work with the senior Lions team but also the fantastic coaching work he's been doing with the Lions Academy since its inception back in July 2013, it's great news for the Lions and the club as a whole that we're being recognised for the good work that we're doing here."

"He's also the Sports Development Officer here at the National Ice Centre, working at promoting and developing all sorts of on and off-ice sports, so he's here virtually every day - he's an extremely dedicated and passionate guy, especially when it comes to bringing through the city's next crop of hockey talent and despite his roles within the club being entirely voluntary, his skills and conduct are always that of a consummate professional."

The Sports Awards presentation evening will be held at Nottingham Council House in the Old Market Square on 20 November and will hosted by BT Sport and BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Darren Fletcher.
