The summer is nearly over and with autumn on the horizon, the Nottingham Lions look forward to their season opener against the Blackburn Eagles on Saturday 6th September, with both teams gunning for their maiden victory of the Laidler D2 2014/15 campaign.

The fixture has been made all the more mouth-watering, with double points now also at stake, after it was decided that both sides will only meet each other on two occasions this season.
Both the Lions and the Eagles have just wrapped up busy off-seasons and the teams will take to the ice with a mix of new and old faces, to do battle at the start of an extended 34-game season.
Most notably the Eagles will be backstopped by 2014 Laidler All-Star netminder Nick Saxton and Steven Etherington also returns to the club, as their longest serving player, bringing a wealth of experience to their offence.
The Lions are not without their own high profile signings, as Latvian forward Ivo Dimitrijevs should be suiting up for his debut in Lions colours and hoping to make a good impression on his new club, fans, coaches and teammates. Other new signings Conor Gordon, Sam Adcock, Rob McDonald and Warren Gilfoyle should also be in contention for their Nottingham debuts.
With an ever-improving Eagles side looking to bounce back from last season’s four losses against Matt Bradbury's men and a big four points on offer to the winners, why not come along and roar the Lions’ pride along, in what promises to be an entertaining start to the new campaign.
