Ben Wilson will lace up his skates for the Nottingham Lions again next season for his eight season at the club. The 31 year old iced for 29 games last season and scored two memorable goals in the 6-5 overtime loss against the Blackburn Hawks at the National Ice Centre towards the end of last season.
Wilson, who has been a part of the Nottingham ice hockey scene since U16 level, hopes that the club can continue to do well in their second season at the second tier of British Ice Hockey.
He told nottinghamlions.co.uk “I’m so excited to be back with the team this season, I look forward to playing with some of the same guys as last year and I feel we really worked well at the end of the season and we are ready to get back on the ice for pre-season training. I’m working harder in the gym to get my fitness levels higher than before so that I can be the best player I can to help my team mates in any way I can”. Head Coach of the Nottingham Lions Matt Bradbury was delighted with the signing saying: “You know exactly what you’re going to get with Ben and whilst he may not be the type of player that's going to rack up huge points, he’s definitely the kind of player you want on and off the ice and in your team. Even though he’s been around a number of seasons, he’s still enthusiastic, enjoying his hockey and learning too - so you can’t say any fairer than that. He fits in well with both the experienced players as well as the young upcoming players.”
A number of new signings and re-signings are still to be announced over the coming weeks, so keep your eye on the club’s website and social media for all the latest updates.
